From past long time engineers have liked ceramic parts for the strong, light weight and better heat handle properties. Ceramic is ideal for crafting parts of airplanes and rockets and is used in making heat-shielding tiles on the space shuttle. As per the new report, researchers have used a 3-D printer to make customized ceramic parts that have also overcome the Achilles’ heel of ceramic objects: their tendency to crack. The findings could help create a new class of ceramic-body or ceramic-engine jets, perhaps even a hypersonic craft that can fly from New York to Tokyo in a few hours.
Drought in California has led to draining of lakes, subsidizing of land and implementation of draconian water protocols. A research has revealed that between 2011 and 2015, about 58 million large trees over 3,861 square miles have suffered from water loss owing the biggest ever drought of the state. The research has been carried out by Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford University. The drought is resulting in trees dying due to lack of water, which in turn will lead to revolutionary changes in ecosystem.
Norovirus is not at all a new thing for people in California, the state since October has seen almost 32 outbreaks of norovirus. Recently after seeing the increasing number of cases linked to the outbreak, health officials have issued an advisory.
As per experts, norovirus is a highly infectious virus that causes gastroenteritis, an illness that has symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
The symptoms of the infection starts showing up in a person almost after 12 to 48 hours after the person has been exposed to the virus.
California’s historic drought taking place since 2011 has led up to 58 million large trees in the state to witness water loss than in turn could prove life threatening, finds a new research. Study researchers at Stanford University’s Carnegie Institution for Science has unveiled that this drought is putting extreme burden on California’s forests.
SpaceX has finally achieved what Elon Musk and his team claimed could change the way we carry out space missions. With reusable rockets, the cost of space missions will reduce dramatically and this can help in carrying out future research with lower budget. SpaceX announced that Falcon 9 rocket landed successfully at a landing pad in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Musk has been congratulated by NASA and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos among others.
Norovirus, the most common cause of viral gastroenteritis in the United States, has already infected hundreds of people in many states across the nation, including California, the Golden State’s Department of Public Health warned.
California health officials confirmed that norovirus-related illnesses were occurring in the state but no cases were reported in Humboldt County.
UCLA researchers have developed a new metal by combining magnesium and ceramic silicon carbide nanoparticles which has record-breaking strength to weight ratio. The lightweight metal has extremely high specific strength and modulus. It can be used as light structural metal. Structural metals are used as load-bearing metals in structures and vehicles. The research team used magnesium as it is the lightest structural metal.
The members of the US Congress said California presently is under high risk to be hit by an earthquake. This is the time when it feels need of having a system that could guide people to reach safer place, and Californians presently are in high need of any such system to help them save themselves from mega earthquake.
Presently, a prototype system has been developed by the researchers at the California Institute of technology (Caltech) and the congress members are asking president Obama to fund the project.
